CRISTIAN
GUTIÉRREZ
Cristian
was born in Santiago , Chile . He studied classical guitar
with the maestro Ernesto Quezada, in the Conservatory of
Music of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile
, finishing with the highest distinction awarded in this
area. In 1999 he was the only one recipient of the prize
that the "Municipal Theather of Chile" awards
to young national talents. In Chile, he began studying lute,
vihuela, and baroque guitar, and was later awarded a scholarship
from the "Andes Foundation" to travel to Spain
for advanced studies in "Plucked String Instruments
of the Renaissance and Baroque" at the Superior Conservatory
of Seville with Juan Carlos Rivera, and "Improvisation
and Continuo" at the Isaac Albéniz Conservatory
of Gerona with Xavier Díaz-Latorre.
Cristian has made numerous recordings including award winning
"A tocar, a cantar, a baylar" based on the anthology
of colonial music by the noted musicologist Samuel Claro.
For several years he has done outstanding work as soloist
and member of diverse groupings, most notably the Baroque
Orchestra of Seville and La Bella Tiranna
and performed with such out-standing personalities as Monica
Huggett, Ventura Rico, Pedro Estevan etc. He has performed
in Chile, Argentina , Bolivia, Spain , Uruguay, the United
States, the Netherlands, France and Portugal .
